Galway Congress

Information regarding the Galway Chess Congress, past and present, can be accessed from this page.

The Galway Chess Congress is one of the main annual weekenders in Ireland, and has been held since 2002.  It was originally held in early to mid-October, but we then moved to a mid-Spring date.  The most recent Congress was held from April 4th to 6th 2025 in the Lough Rea Hotel and Spa (in Loughrea, County Galway). In previous years it was held in hotels in Galway, but unfortunately none is now both suitable and affordable.

The reigning champion is Oliver Barnes.
